The first political party in Nigeria was the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP). It was formed in 1923 by the late nationalist, Herbert Macaulay, the grandson of the famous Bishop Ajayi Crowther.
The Nigerian Youth Movement was Nigeria’s first genuine nationalist organization, founded in Lagos in 1933. Some of its prominent members were Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Eyo Ita, Ernest Ikoli, Samuel Akintola, Kofo Abayomi, Adeyemo Alakija and many others.
