HEROES, HEROINES AND NATION BUILDING

Is Nigeria really moving forward, standing still or going backwards? What vision is she running with? What strategic plan does this nation have for her youths? Do we have a clearly defined roadmap for our educational, entertainment and other sectors? Where does a young Nigerian begin from, when he graduates from school?

A young graduate stated his future plans, when he was just 23, in this format: “I will get a well-paid job less than three months from now, buy my first car at 24, get married at 26, build my first house at 30, become the Chief Executive Officer of an organisation that has at least a hundred staff at 38, retire at 50.”

Good thinking, right? Painfully, this young man is still searching seriously for a well-paid job at 36!’ Every other plan has remained on hold! Sadly, millions of young Nigerians are going through this kind of experience today. They keep hunting for jobs in the labour market every now and then – almost to no avail.

It’s interesting to note that the average Nigerian youth has too many unanswered questions bothering on the state of this nation. But one thing is certain, and this is it: “The labour of our past heroes shall never be in vain!”

This eye-opening book therefore, addresses issues that bother on the state of the nation yesterday and today. It provides a summary of the lives of several heroes and heroines, and highlights some heroic values which every Nigerian should embrace.

Our heroes and heroines contributed immensely to the development of our dear nation. They made tremendous impacts in several areas including politics, business, journalism, religion, governance, human rights advocacy, philanthropy, entertainment, and so on. Their legacies must be preserved. Their heroic deeds are indeed worthy of note.
